GLEN HOPE – A 15-year-old juvenile was killed and four others were flown for medical treatment after a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 3:24 p.m. Friday at the intersection of state Route 729 and SR 53 in Glen Hope Borough, the Clearfield-based state police reported.
The juvenile wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris.
In addition, operator Katie A. McBride, 30, of Smoke Run sustained critical injuries in the accident. She was flown to the Altoona Hospital for medical treatment. McBride wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.
McBride had passengers who were ages 1 and 4 years and who were in approved child restraints. Both were flown to Altoona for precautionary reasons. Her third passenger, a 9-year-old juvenile, was wearing a seatbelt and flown to the Conemaugh Hospital for medical treatment.
McBride was traveling southbound on SR 729 and Robert R. McConnell, 50, of Duncansville was traveling southbound on SR 53 in a box truck. McBride wasn’t able to stop at the intersection, which caused the McConnell truck to impact her driver’s side door.
After impact, the McBride vehicle began traveling southbound on SR 53 while sliding sideways. It came to a rest in the middle of the roadway. The McConnell truck continued southbound on SR 53 and exited the left berm of the roadway, where it struck a road sign before coming to a rest.
McConnell wasn’t injured in the accident. He was wearing his seatbelt. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene.
State police were assisted by the Glen Hope Fire Company, the Moshannon Valley and Clearfield emergency medical services, Stat MedEvac and PennDOT.
