SMOKE RUN – The Muddy Run Raceway has been in Clearfield County for more than two decades.
And, while hosting its fair share of mud races, it has also benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation for local kids who have life-threatening illnesses.
Jay Lewis, raceway founder and a former racer, told WJAC-TV that he wanted its races to help the local community.
The Muddy Run Raceway, which is located in Smoke Run, has donated more than $50,000 within nine years to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. On Aug. 19, the raceway will host its 10th annual Make-A-Wish benefit.
Lewis said it’s a good feeling to help kids who are in need.
“It really tugs on your heartstrings when you see these kids (who are) coming in and enjoying themselves and the difficulties they have. It makes you realize there are other things to worry about,” said Lewis.
Lewis said that any Make-A-Wish kids are welcome to attend the event Aug. 19 with their families for free.
