Dorothy Lorraine (Turnbull) Skonier, 84, of Ramey died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Manor Care Health Services, Elizabethtown.She was born Aug. 11, 1927 in Smithmill, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Nichols) Turnbull.
Mrs. Skonier was a 1945 graduate of the former Madera High School. She was a homemaker.
She was employed as a secretary for J.J. Powell Inc. of Philipsburg for a time and was a licensed beautician. She operated a beauty shop in Ramey for many years.
Mrs. Skonier was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey and was a member of the
Catholic Daughters of the Americas St. Victoria’s Court #646 Houtzdale and the Houtzdale American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
On May 11, 1946 in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she married Chester J. Skonier, who preceded her in death on April 14, 2004.
She’s survived by three daughters, Kathleen Janowiak and her husband, Thomas of Ramey; Tracey Romanoski and her husband, Anthony of Palmyra; and Heather Skonier-Baer and her husband, Larry of Elizabethtown.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Timothy Janowiak and his wife, Adrienn and Ross and Nicole Romanoski; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aidan and Elijah Janowiak; a brother-in-law, Alfred Skonier and his wife, Catherine and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Skonier was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Janowiak on Aug. 16, 1991; a brother, William Turnbull and two sisters, Virginia Turnbull and Margaret “Peg” Powell.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey, with Fr. Zab Amar as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ramey.
