CLEARFIELD– PennDOT District 2 will start a project this week to complete the construction and relocation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices on Interstate 80 and Interstate 99. Work will begin on Tuesday, July 31.
Completion of the ITS system will enhance PennDOT’s ability to provide up-to-date information to roadway customers about weather conditions, roadway construction, and special events/circumstances.
Work includes construction of 16 dynamic message signs (DMS) with speed detection at each site, closed circuit television cameras, upgrades to the Highway Advisory Radio System (HARS) and miscellaneous items.
Work will begin on I-80 eastbound near the Woodland/123 interchange inClearfieldCounty. Work will then continue on I-80 eastbound through Centre andClintoncounties. Crews will eventually make their way to I-80 westbound and I-99 inCentreCounty.
No traffic disruptions or lane restrictions are planned at this time. Drivers are reminded to proceed with caution and be alert for crews working along the shoulder of the roadway.
The contractor on this $5.1 million project is Bruce and Merrilees Electric Company ofNew Castle. Work is expected to be complete by October.
