CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way is making it easier for residents to receive prescriptions by helping them save money on their medications.
After getting a free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card, they can present it to the pharmacist who will automatically apply a discount to the cost of their medicine. Savings can be on average of 30 percent off name brands and 75 percent off generic brands.
There aren’t any age restrictions and people who have insurance but who may not have coverage on a certain type of medication(s) have benefited from this card.
FamilyWize, an organization based in Bethlehem, is a Community Service Partnership that was established in the fall of 2005 to help residents receive the necessary medicine.
“When one out of every four people have trouble buying their medicine, we’re looking for possible ways to make sure every person in any local community can get the free help provided by these cards,” said a FamilyWize spokesman.
Their web site has been updated and is www.familywize.org for anyone with online access. Residents can also text the word “family” to 700700 and get a free card or print one from this CAUW web site.
Regardless of where they’re living, residents can enter their zip code into the FamilyWize web site and it will tell them which pharmacies are participating in their area.
“FamilyWize just made us aware that (more than) $10,300 has been seen in eastern, southern and central Clearfield County residents’ prescriptions savings; the United Way does not (earn) any money from this project. It is purely a community service that we, along with 980 United Ways nationwide, are offering,” said Nancy Pinto, CAUW chief professional officer.
“CAUW recently received a framed Community Partnership Award to represent its great work being done to advance the common good in the area of health in these communities,” she added.
