Robert L. Rideout, 72, of Erie died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Hamot. Born Aug. 13, 1939 in Toronto, OH, he was a son of the late Robert D. and Susanna (Durkin) Rideout.
During the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a jitney driver at Erie Malleable Iron for 31 years until retiring. He was also a Union Steward. He was a member of Knights of St. George.
Mr. Rideout was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick J. Rideout in 2011 and by two infant children, Robert and Maryann Rideout.
He’s survived by his wife, Nancy A. (Stover) Rideout to whom he’d been married to for 41 years; a daughter, Karianne Galvin and her husband, Scott Pohl and a son, Richard Simkins, all of Erie; five grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Thomas, Dakota and Jordan; a sister, Carol Ann Plummer and her husband, Ken of Oak Ridge, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Boulevard.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with his nephew, Rev. Richard Stover, officiating.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
