CLEARFIELD – WJACTV.com is reporting that after 21 years of sheltering animals inside of a Philipsburg building, the Clearfield County SPCA is moving.
Thanks to two longtime SPCA supporters, Tim and Margie Lanager, a new building is in the forseeable future.
The Lanager family jump-started the project by providing $1 million to complete the worksite and erect the new building in Clearfield.
The Lanager family underwrote the project in memory of their daughter, Jamie, who died in 2009.
Pamela Smith, a worker at the Clearfield County SPCA, said that they have needed a new building for a while.
“We do somewhere between 1,900 and 2,300Â animals a year. That’s pretty busy,” said Smith.
The Clearfield County SPCA is one of the last remaining open door shelters. They never turn away an animal.
The organization has no parent organization for support or funding.
The Clearfield County SPCA operates solely on donations.
