BELLWOOD – After having no home runs in their first 13 games, the Clearfield Chiefs slugged four circuit blows in their eighth consecutive road game to blitz Altoona 13-2 in five innings in Central Penn Legion League West Division action Tuesday evening.
Derek Danver, Andrew Redden and Ronny Ogden whacked three-run homers while Jon Janocko contributed a solo blast as the Chiefs posted a season-high for runs to climb back over .500 in the league at 5-4.
Manager Sid Lansberry’s club tied their season high for hits with 14, including three by Danver and two each by Redden, Kyler Kephart and Wyatt Westen. Redden and Kephart are working on six-game hitting streaks.
Meanwhile, Kephart pitched a complete game for his second win, losing a shutout in the fifth inning when he gave up both of his walks and three hits.
He finished with a seven-hitter and two strikeouts.
Leading 2-0, Clearfield (8-6) broke it open with six runs on homers by Danver and Ogden in the second frame.
They came right back with four in the third on the circuit blows by Redden and Janocko.
The Chiefs will play back-to-back games with Hollidaysburg, returning to Blair County Wednesday for the completion of a suspended game they’re leading 6-1 going to the third inning and finally getting on their Bison Sports Complex diamond Thursday.
