WORTH TOWNSHIP – Minor injuries were reported following a DUI-related hit-and-run accident at 7:52 p.m. June 19 along Route 220 south of Port Matilda Borough in Worth Township, the Philipsburg-based state police reported.
Travis Stahlman, 33, of State College was traveling northbound at which time he observed a slow moving farm tractor ahead in his lane. He then swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic, where Forrest Adams, 28, of Port Matilda was traveling southbound.
Adams observed the Stahlman vehicle approaching him at a high rate of speed. Adams swerved off the western berm and into an embankment. Stahlman slammed on his brakes and caused his vehicle to slide. It traveled approximately 345 feet before striking the Adams vehicle.
The Stahlman vehicle then rotated 180 degrees counterclockwise while sliding another 114 feet. It came to a final rest facing southwest and straddling the double yellow line. Stahlman, however, fled the scene and was located a short time later. It was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Drug paraphernalia was also discovered in the Stahlman vehicle, state police said. Charges, including Act 64 violations and hit-and-run and DUI, were filed through the district court. Stahlman was placed in the Centre County Jail pending arraignment.
Stahlman wasn’t wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Adams was wearing his seatbelt. Stahlman and Adams suffered minor injuries, and both vehicles had disabling damage.
