HYDE – The Clearfield American Legion baseball team took advantage of Fox Township’s generosity to forge a 6-4 victory at the Bison Sports Complex Thursday evening.
Cole Kephart tripled and scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 3-3 in the fourth inning, and four walks and two Fox Township errors gave the Chiefs three runs in the fifth frame that decided the non-league game.
Clearfield’s only other hits came in the first frame, the big one a two-out, two-run single by Thomas Summers that offset the visitors’ pair of tallies in the top of the inning.
He drove in Kyler Kephart, who led off with a single, and Andrew Redden, aboard via the first of his three free passes. Ronny Ogden also walked to fill the sacks for Summers.
Ogden notched his second win with a route-going effort.
He gave up 11 hits but only two earned runs, including one in the seventh inning when Fox Township had the tying runs in scoring position with two outs.
Ogden closed it out with his sixth strikeout. He walked one and hit two batters.
Justin Beimel had three singles and two RBIs for Fox Township, while Brandon Vollmer singled and doubled and Branden Tyger added two singles.
Manager Sid Lansberry’s Chiefs (2-2) will be at home again Saturday for a 5 p.m. Central Penn League game with Bellefonte.
