Chiefs’ Ogden Blanks Clarence 6-0 in CPL Opener

CLARENCE – Ronny Ogden got the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team off to a winning start by shutting out Clarence 6-0 in the Central Penn League opener Saturday evening.

 

Ogden scattered seven hits and recorded five strikeouts with no walks in the route-going performance.

 

Andrew Redden had three of the Chiefs’ nine hits off three Clarence pitchers, while Coleman Kubala added a pair of run-scoring singles.

 

Redden drove in Kyler Kephart, who had walked, with the only run Ogden needed and then scored on an error in the first inning.

 

Kubala and Jon Janocko singled across insurance runs in the third frame.

 

The Chiefs chased loser Tyler Bennett in the fourth, posting their final two runs on Tanner Ogden’s RBI double and Kubala’s second hit.

 

Clearfield’s home opener with defending CPL champion Beech Creek, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been moved up to Monday at 6 p.m. at the Clearfield Area High School junior varsity field.

 

Manager Sid Lansberry announced that last Tuesday’s CPL East Division rainout at DuBois is set for Wednesday.
