An incident of simple assault occurred at 2:30 a.m. May 19 near West Presqueisle and Front streets in Philipsburg Borough, Centre County. A 26-year-old man allegedly struck a known 30-year-old woman in face, causing severe bruising around her eye and a laceration on her cheek. She was transported to the Centre County Correctional Facility.
Minor injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident at 8 p.m. May 17 on state Route 550 in Halfmoon Township, Centre County. Alfred E. Cantolina, 32, of Howard was traveling southbound when he fell asleep, crossed into the northbound lane and exited onto the eastern berm. There, his vehicle struck a fence and utility pole. Afterward SR 550 was closed for down wires. Cantolina will be cited for careless driving.
An incident of theft from a motor vehicle occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday at various residences along South Second, Oak and Warwick streets in the Philipsburg area. Four Philipsburg residents reported that a person(s) entered their unlocked vehicles, while they were parked in their driveways and removed numerous items. The stolen items included: cellular phone and GPS chargers; change; a blue Traxxis Stampede Nitro remote control truck; a blue and silver HJC helmet; Under Armour sunglasses; blue “SPY” goggles; a wallet containing a driver’s license and social security card. A revolver was found in a wooded area near South Philipsburg at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Rush Township, Centre County. The owner may claim the firearm by contacting the Philipsburg-based state police at 814-342-3370.
