Press release by Terry Whetstone
STRONGSTOWN, PA – Sammy Stile of Charleroi is lightning fast and as he came from 12th to win the Townsend Gas and Oil Super Late Model feature for the third straight time Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway on Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Trophy night.
Everyone else that made it to victory lane did so for the first time this season. They include: Andrew Satterlee of Rochester Mills in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models, Roger Irvine of Irvona in the Precise Racing Products Racesaver 305 Sprints, Ray Hickok of Commodore in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Street Stocks, Adam Pletcher of Tire Hill in the Lias Tire Pure Stocks, Ryan Claycomb of Altoona in the Myers Tires Four Cylinder Sidewinders and Ray Edwards of South Fork in the Myers Tires Modified Four Cylinders.
Billy Eash and Ron Delano Jr. brought the Super Late Models to the start with Delano taking the lead with Eash in second and Dan Lee in third. While the top three were setting the pace, the crowd was watching Sammy Stile, who started 12th due to his win last week.
By the sixth lap, Stile was already in third and he took second a lap later with Lee falling to third. A caution regrouped the field and on the restart Delano was able to hold on to the lead with Stile in second and on lap 10 Stile came off the fourth turn on the inside of Delano and took the lead. Stile was pulling away but coming from 15th place was Kenny Pettyjohn of Millsboro, Del., Pettyjohn was reeling in Stile, when the field closed on Casey Fleegle to put a lap on him, but Fleegle spun, collecting Stile and Pettyjohn who were now first and second. Dog Hollow Rules state only the car to cause the caution tails the field and the rest get their position back.
Stile returned to the lead while Pettyjohn was done. On the restart Stile still led with Rick Davis coming on fast but not quite having enough speed to take Stile down. At the line it was Stile winning his third straight with Davis, Mike Blose, Lee and Dwayne Taneyhill completing the top five. Davis, Delano and Terry Rayko won the preliminaries.
The Andrew Satterlee led the Fastrak Late Models to the start and led the event from flag to flag, with some serious pressure from last week’s winner Joe Martin and Dan Angelicchio as Martin ran second for three laps before Angelicchio moved to second and tried to run Satterlee down, but on lap 15 Angelicchio nearly went over the backstretch and gave up second to Martin who again tried to run down Satterlee but he ran out of time. The top five were: Satterlee, Martin, Angelicchio, Joe Moyer and Tim Snare Jr. Heat wins went to Martin, Angelicchio and Martin.
Roger Irvine and Bryce Stephens led the field to the start the Racesaver 305 Sprints with two false starts. The second one saw Ricky Leonard get out of shape exiting turn four and collectiong Dan Shetler, who flipped and was out for the night. Once the race got going, it went non-stop with Irvine leading flag-to-flag for his first ever Dog Hollow win. Stephens was second with Brian Walker, Ryan Lynn and Steve Kenawell completing the top five. Irvine and Stephens won the heats.
Ray Hickok and Bob Rosman led the Street Stocks to the start with Nick Goss starting scratch on the field due to two straight wins. Hickok took the lead and Jeff Sweeney was second with Goss headed towards the front. He moved into third by lap five and on lap 10 he took second from Sweeney. Goss was reeling in Hickok but simply could not wrestle the lead away from the leader as Hickok held on for his first win of the season. Goss, Mike Desch, Sweeney and Vigi Zuccolotto completed the top five. Desch won the heat.
In the Pure Stocks, Anthony Brown and Jim Hamilton led the field to the start, with Justin Queen in 12th due to two past wins in a row. On the start third place starter Tim Laughard took the lead and was setting the pace, with Adam Pletcher in second and Queen making his way through the field. A few cautions slowed the event with Laughard still in the lead.
On a lap 11 restart, Pletcher was able to dive under Laughard for the lead and another caution shortly after that slowed the field again. On the lap 13 restart Laughard developed a push and caught Pletcher in the quarter panel, spinning Pletcher. Laughard tailed the field and Pletcher went back to the lead with Queen sitting third. On the restart Queen took second from Matt Summers but could not reel in Pletcher. At the line the top five were: Pletcher for his first ever Pure Stock win with Queen, Matt Krause, Summers and Donnie Lechak completing the top five. Heat wins went to Pletcher and Jim Hamilton.
The Four Cylinder Sidewinders saw Ryan Claycomb and John Costa on the front row with Claycomb taking the lead and setting the pace. As he led, the battle was for second between Jack Theys and Ray Wright, as Claycomb went on to get his first feature win since July 2009. Second was Theys with Wright, Costa and Chris Yoder completing the top five. Heat wins went to Theys, Costa and Sean Fitzpartick won the heats.
The Modified Four Cylinders were led to the line with Mark Maglet and Jon Lee on the front row, with Lee leading the first two laps before Ray Edwards took the lead and never looked back, picking up his first win of the season. Maglet held on to second with Lee, John Hayes and Chris Hickok completing the top five. The heats were won by Edwards and Maglet.
