CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors opened bids for two projects at their Tuesday night meeting. The projects were paving and road markings. Paving was awarded, pending legal review, but the road marking bid was tabled pending additional research.The paving bid was awarded to New Enterprise Stone & Lime for $101,927.23. The competing bids were Glen O. Hawbaker Inc. at $105,573.20 and HRI Inc. at $106,228.20. Supervisor Edward Brown commented that this was in line with the budget.
The road marking bids were in two parts. For directional arrows the township requested thermoplastic instead of paint. Thermoplastic works by being melted into the road and will last up to eight years, depending on traffic, according to Supervisor William Lawhead. Crossing walks and the cross lines at stop signs were bid out for painting estimated to last two years. At which point the township would switch to thermoplastic to keep the road marking projects with a few years in-between.
The bids were Midatlantic at $25,740 and Aztec Linear at $52,182. Secretary/Treasurer Barbara Shaffner was asked to repeat Aztec’s amount. Supervisor Glenn Johnston initially moved to accept Midatlantic’s bid, but received no second. Lawhead suggested to table the awarding pending more research into the bid and into other potential candidates that did not submit bids. Brown suggested that the bids be rejected, and another bid be called for. The other supervisors reminded Brown that this was the second time the job was bid for.
In response to PennDOT wishing to continue leasing from the township, the supervisors approved sending a bid to PennDOT for $700 a month. This is how much PennDOT is currently paying the township for their lease.
The supervisors adopted the height and setback changes zoning ordinance.
The recreation board is looking into a replacement for a wood border up at the recreational park. The old wood boarder was untreated wood due to regulations preventing treated wood due arsenic levels. New regulations allow treated wood without arsenic, and this is the second option for the recreation board. The first option that the recreation board is looking at is brick. Right now prices are being gathered.
