DUBOIS – Hits were at a premium, but DuBois got more mileage out of its six safeties and pinned a 5-1 defeat on Clearfield in schoolboy non-league baseball action at Showers Field Thursday afternoon.
The Beavers (12-5) got a two-run single by Nick Bontempo in the first inning, a run-scoring single by Devon Walker in the fourth and a solo home run by Sean Sleigh in the fifth.
Walker had a sacrifice fly for another RBI in the second inning.
The Bisons (4-12) averted a shutout on Ronny Ogden’s single and three walks by winning pitcher Ian Yount in the top of the second.
Yount allowed only three hits while striking out four and walking five in six innings.
Clearfield’s fourth hit came off reliever Bryson Paulinelli in the seventh.
For the Bisons, starter Kyler Kephart took the loss, surrendering five hits, four walks and four runs in 3-2/3 innings.
Sleigh’s homer was the lone hit off Jon Janocko, who struck out two in 2-1/3 innings.
Clearfield will welcome Philipsburg-Osceola to the Bison Sports Complex Friday for a Mountain League Allegheny Division make-up game.
