James Earl “Cousy” Dixon Sr., 71, of Philipsburg died Thursday at the Clearfield Hospital. Born Sept. 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Donald Elmer and Pearl (Blake) Dixon.
He was Methodist by faith and a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the AMVETS Post #159 and the American Legion, John Ashley Dennis Post #437, both of Philipsburg.
Mr. Dixon was a materials inspector supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Cold Stream camp and enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He was a 1958 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. He earned an associate’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Thomas Dixon and a brother, Kenneth Edmund Dixon.
He’s survived by his son, James E. Dixon Jr. and his companion, Coleen Bainey of Philipsburg and one grandson, Siler Dixon of Philipsburg; and his ex-wife, Roseann Dixon of Morrisdale.
Surviving are five sisters, Donna Mae Larson of Redding, CA; Geraldine Ann Novesal of Dillsburg; Janet Arlene Sweeden and her husband, Gary of Sonoma, CA; Jennie Mary Makaiwi of Molokai, HI; and Kim Marie Barney and her husband, Lance of Ovett, MS and two brothers, John W. Dixon and his wife, Deborah of Zion and Ronald L. Dixon and his wife Linda K. of Wallaceton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Timothy D. Richmond officiating. Interment will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
