WESTOVER – It was the second game on the road in two nights and two wins for the Curwensville Area High School baseball team as the Golden Tide traveled to Tuesday Westover and defeated the Harmony Owls 19-9.
Over the last two games the Golden Tide have scored a total of 33 runs to pick up the two wins and move its record to 4-8 on the year.
The Golden Tide took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of play and after the Owls picked up a lone run in the bottom of the first it was all Tide for the next two innings.
Curwensville put up eight runs in the second inning and four more in the third to increase the margin to 15-1 after three innings.
The Owls mounted a mini comeback in the bottom of the fourth with six runs of their own, but it was somewhat too late.
Freshman Jake Stiles of Curwensville led all batters with four hits on the day while Jesse Zorger had three and Tanner Elensky, Hunter McCracken, Kyle Bloom, Boone McGary and Jordan Russell each had two hits in the Tide’s 20 hit offensive barrage.
The Tide also stole nine bases and benefited from seven Harmony fielding miscues.
Zorger stole three of the nine bases for the Tide.
Harmony was paced on offense by Cody Black, Nathan Young and Joe Leyo with two hits each.
Curwensville head coach Denny Johns spoke about his team’s new found offense, “It sure is nice to see our offense come alive over the last two games, and Stiles (Jake) has pleasantly been an offensive spark over those last two ballgames.”
The Tide continues its traveling tour on Thursday when they go to Ridgway and meet the Elkers in a game scheduled to start at 4 pm.
Ridgway defeated the Tide the first time around in Curwensville, 9-1, earlier this season.
Johns closed with, “We just need to keep building on this momentum for the remainder of this week.”
After the Thursday game at Ridgway, the Tide will be at home on Friday against the Black Knights of Moshannon Valley.
