The Penn State Coaches Caravan got under way Monday (April 30) as football coach Bill O’Brien, men’s basketball coach Patrick Chambers and field hockey coach Char Morett met and talked with fans and alumni at a luncheon event in Philadelphia and an evening program in Drexel Hill, Pa.

O’Brien delivered a presentation on his vision for Penn State Football, including four pillars of academics, football, respect and integrity. He also revealed Monday that the team would start a new tradition of singing the alma mater on the field after each home game.
Chambers reflected on his first season at the helm of Penn State basketball and discussed his excitement for the future of the program, adding that he’s looking forward to facing LaSalle at Philadelphia’s Palestra this fall. Morett, who has led the field hockey program for 25 years, delivered passionate remarks on what it means to be a Penn Stater. Both Chambers and Morett are Delaware County natives.
The Coaches Caravan, presented by the Nittany Lion Club and Penn State Alumni Association, is making 18 stops in seven states and Washington, D.C. O’Brien will be at each event, with 11 other coaches appearing at various stops. O’Brien, Chambers, women’s golf coach Denise St. Pierre and track and field coach Beth Alford-Sullivan were scheduled to be in Baltimore for a Tuesday (May 1) luncheon and in Washington, D.C. for an evening reception and program Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the Caravan heads to Richmond, Va. for breakfast before wrapping the first week with an evening program in Camp Hill, Pa.
