CLEARFIELD – The 4th annual Clearfield Chamber of Commerce Wing Fling kicked off at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield Fairgrounds.
Over 400 wing-enthusiasts came to taste the wings of eight participants this year: Adam’s Golden Grill, The Arrowhead Restaurant, Buck’s Pizza, Express Café, Firehouse Grill, Fun Central, Mary’s Place and Pizza Hut. Each participant provides the wings and containers for the wings. Tickets were sold in advance for $10, and for $12 at the door.
“My favorite part of planning the Wing Fling was finding participants and telling them the advantages it gives them,” said Holly Bloom, Chamber director. “Such as future customers, and giving those future customers a chance to most importantly try their wings.” Some participants had other things available for purchase as well, such as baked goods, nachos and pizza.
Contests were held for the cleanest wing and a wing eating contest. There were also 50/50 raffles, a Chinese auction and a silent auction. Bob E. Day emceed the event with music playing and there were also activities for children sponsored by the Hyde Wesleyan Church. The new “Cooking with the Chamber” cookbook was also available for purchase, and now may be purchased at the Chamber office.
Judges for the Wing Fling were Clearfield County Commissioner Mark McCracken, Joe Murgo (WTAJ-TV Weather) and Sarah Swistak (WTAJ-TV “We are Central PA Live”).
“I thought it was a lot of fun and a great way to get the community involved with local businesses,” said Kylee Floro, Curwensville resident.
The People’s Choice winner of the 55 inch television donated by Wal-Mart Distribution Center was Adam’s Golden Grill, the winner of Judge’s Choice was Fun Central and the Spirit Award went to the Arrowhead Restaurant.
“I have to thank all the volunteers and board members,” Bloom said.
Next year’s Wing Fling is scheduled April 27, 2013. Any questions may be directed to the Chamber of Commerce at 765-7567 or info@clearfieldchamber.com.
