MARTINSBURG – The Clearfield Area High School baseball team couldn’t match Central’s firepower and lost Friday’s Mountain League Allegheny Division slugfest 21-11 in five innings.
Kyler Kephart and Tanner Ogden clubbed bases-loaded triples for the Bisons, who fell to 1-5 in the division and 3-9 overall.
Ogden had two of Clearfield’s seven hits.
Kephart picked up a fourth RBI with a bases-loaded walk, and Curtis Collins added two RBIs.
The Bisons held short-lived leads on two occasions, 5-3 in the second inning and 11-7 in the third frame.
The Scarlet Dragons, who boast a .372 batting average with five regulars above .400, tied the score in the bottom of the third and made it a Mercy Rule victory with 10 runs in the fifth.
Fronting their 14-hit attack were Kasy Hamm with four hits, including a triple, and six RBIs and Brodi Moore with a triple, two doubles and a single for five RBIs.
Central (9-5) is tied for the division lead with Philipsburg-Osceola at 4-1.
Ogden, the second of three Clearfield pitchers, took the loss.
The Bisons will be home against District 9 Class AAA rival Bradford Tuesday and division opponents Tyrone Wednesday and Philipsburg-Osceola Friday.
