HYDE- The Philipsburg-Osceola girls softball team won its fifth game of the year Friday afternoon with an 11-1 win over the Lady Bisons of Clearfield at the Bison Sports complex. The game was stopped after six innings due to the ten run mercy rule being enforced.
The Lady Mounties broke open a close, 1-0 contest, with four runs in the top half of the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead after three innings.
All four runs in the third inning for the Mounties were unearned as the Lady Bisons committed five errors on the afternoon.
Philipsburg then added three more tallies in the top of the fifth inning before Clearfield scored its first and only run on a solo home run by B. J. Bowman.
Scoring one run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, the Lady Mounties were able to end the game after six innings with a ten run lead.
Kate Burge lead Philipsburg with three hits while Aisha Goss and Mackenzie Burge each had two hits, with Mackenzie Burge hitting a two run home run in the top half of the fourth inning. Goss and Haley Frank each had a double for the Lady Mounties.
Kate Burge also went the distance for the Mounties giving up just two hits while striking out 11 Lady Bisons.
Clearfield head coach Bob Dixon was obviously disappointed with the loss and overall effort of his squad, “It was a team loss. We didn’t play well at all. I was very surprised at how we played because we practiced so well this week. I just thought it would be a much closer game. We just didn’t play well.”
The Lady Bisons (2-5) return to the field on Monday when they hit the road to play Central Mountain starting at 4:30 pm.
