Sherman Lee Nelson, 81, of Clearfield was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 11, 2012.
He was born in Clearfield on Jan. 24, 1931 to Ai and Pearl (Miller) Nelson.
He was a wonderful husband, dedicated father and grandfather and great grandfather. He was a brother and great friend, gardener and avid golfer.
He was a faithful member to Emmanuel United Methodist Church and served as past chairman of church council, Sunday school teacher and served God in many other ways.
Sherman graduated from Clearfield Area High School class of 1950 and served as class president.
He was a former member and past president of the Clearfield Lions Club and member of the Clearfield Masonic Lodge. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a lifetime member of the Clearfield Fire Department.
During Sherman’s early years, he worked for Kurtz Bros., Federated Paper, and retired with 24 years of service from Pennsylvania Electric Company.
Sherman married Janet (Sunderland) Nelson on Sept. 20, 1952. In addition to Janet, he is survived by a son, Kim and his wife, Deborah, and a daughter, Karen Rhone and her husband, Doug.
Sherman was a proud grandfather of Joshua (Crystal), Zachary (Maria), Andrew (Ashley), Matthew, and Catie Colesar (Nick), and three special great grandchildren, Quinton, Madison, and Autumn.
He is also survived by brothers Eldon, Kenneth (Betty), Richard (Ruth), and sisters, Shirley Lansberry, Jane Shugarts (Maxwell), Ruth Bock (William), and Carol Catherman (James), all of Clearfield.
Along with his parents, a brother Willard Nelson and a sister Mae Lindvall preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church on April 14 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Brower officiating.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. on April 13 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 1010 Dorey St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
