DUBOIS – The Clearfield County Commissioners have awarded a $7,500 grant from its Hotel Tax Discretionary Funding to the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department for its Community Days celebration this June 15 – 16.
DuBois City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio said the event offers entertainment, a parade and fireworks and food, and it’s something for the entire community to partake in. “Everything – other than the food – is free. You can come with $5 in your pocket and leave with change,” he said.
Commissioner Mark B. McCracken reminisced about attending the celebration and observing all the families turning out. He said it was a unique, community event, and it’d become important during the difficult economic times. “It’s the fire department’s gift to the community,” he said.
Suplizio said it was the fire department’s way of giving back, noting next year would mark the celebration’s 125th anniversary. He said they were planning a “bigger and better, blowout event.”
“It’s a wonderful time. If you have not been, you wouldn’t understand how wonderful it is,” Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen said. “It’s something that everyone in our county can take part in.”
Suplizio credited the community members and businesses that make pledges to the Community Days celebration and said without them, the event wouldn’t even be possible.
