Rembrandt (Bud) Eckberg, 94 of Spring Street, Houtzdale and a guest of Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield died April 2, 2012 at the center.
Born Nov. 22, 1922 in rural Houtzdale, he was a son of the late Litz and Eva (Lewis) Eckberg.
He served with the United States Army during WWII inNormandy,Northern France,Rhineland,ArdennesandCentral Europe. While serving he received the Distinguished Unit Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and One Bronze Arrowhead.
Bud owned and operated the Amoco Service Station in Houtzdale until his retirement in the1980’s.  He enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren, was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to garden and enjoyed giving the vegetables he grew to friends and relatives.
He married Patricia (Pearson) Eckberg who preceded him in death Feb. 3, 1986
He is survived by the following children, Kathy OShall and her husband Floyd of Coalport and James Eckberg of Houtzdale
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Bart OShall and his wife Kristin, Regina OShall, Lisa OShall all of Coalport, Charles OShall  of Johnstown, Bridget Scramanna and her husband Dominic of Delaware, six great grandchildren, Megan, Connor, and Jadyn Oshall, and Joe, Matt, and Catherine Sciamanna, two brothers Robert Eckberg of Philipsburg, Ronald Eckberg and his wife Donna of Brisbin and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
His was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter Patricia Barto, a son Dennis, three sisters Genevie Costillo, Evelyn McFarland, Dolly DuFour and a brother Edward Eckberg.
Funeral servicewill be held at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home, April 5, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
Visitation will be at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc, Houtzdale on Wednesday from 2-4 and6-9 p.m.and Thursday from9:00 a.m.until the time of service.
Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
