Karen Ann Humes, 66, of Clearfield, passed away March 29, 2012 at her residence.
Born Feb. 9, 1946 in New Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of Robert and Patricia (Moorehead) Humes.
Karen earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Clarion State College and her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. She taught English at Curwensville Area High School for fourteen years. She also coached both the Curwensville High School girl’s basketball and softball teams and twice took the softball team to state finals. Former students fondly recall the profound impact she had on their education.
Following her teaching career, she and her partner, Carrie Danvir, established Danvir’s Greenhouse in Clearfield, from which she retired after 29 years in business.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her life-partner Carrie Danvir.
She is survived by two brothers, R. Bruce Humes and his wife Chris of Washington State and Dennis Humes and his partner William Miller of California; a nephew David Humes, a niece, Jackie Humes, and one great-nephew Riley Humes, all of Washington State. Â In addition she is survived by several aunts, cousins, a large family of friends, and her nine cats.
Karen will always be remembered for her great love of animals, plants and flowers, and as an enthusiastic lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
At her request there will be no public viewing. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 19 at 1:00 p.m., at her home. Family and friends are welcome.
