SHIPPENVILLE – Keystone junior forward Morgan Johnson is the All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com girls’ basketball Player of the Year after leading the Lady Panthers to their first District 9 title in 34 years.
Morgan Johnson’s younger sister, freshman point guard Madision Johnson, is the Rookie of the Year while Cranberry head coach Chrissy Shumaker is the Coach of the Year. The All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com first-, second-, and third-team All-District 9 teams are also released.
Leading Keystone to one of the best seasons in school history, Morgan Johnson average 18.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.8 steals and 3.1 assists per game. She helped the Lady Panthers to their first District 9 title since 1978 and to the PIAA playoffs for the first time since 2002. Keystone went to the second round where it lost to eventual PIAA Class A runner-up North Catholic. The Lady Panthers finished the season 26-2.
Madison Johnson played a key role in her sister’s season as well as the teams stepping into the starting point guard spot as a freshman and averaging 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
Shumaker guided Cranberry to a 25-2 record that included KSAC and District 9 Class AA titles and a pair of PIAA playoff wins helping the Lady Berries reach the PIAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2002 where they lost to eventual state champion Seton-LaSalle giving the Lady Rebels one of their closest games of the season in a 58-42 loss. The 10th year Cranberry mentor has guided the Lady Berries to an average of 18 wins per season while going 155-76 with five District 9 Class AA titles.
