George W. Brown, 91, of Philipsburg died Sunday at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
Born May 30, 1920, he was the son of the late George and Rachel (Mayhew) Brown. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Brown was employed with the mail service at Penn State University for 20 years until his retirement.
He was married to the former Dorothy Dixon on July 21, 1948 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, and who survives at home.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Abbott and her husband, J. Barry of DuBois and Patricia “Trish” Richardson and her husband, James “Bert” of Osceola Mills; five grandchildren, John Abbott and his wife, Tricia of Mount Airy, MD; Ryan Abbott and his wife, Rachael of New York, NY; Shannon Kellgren and her husband, Kurt of Bethel Park; Erika Richardson of Philipsburg; and Seth Richardson of Maitland, FL; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaleb White; Paige, Paiton, Colin and Layla Abbott; Tyler and Tanner Kellgren; and several nieces and nephews.
He’s also survived by three sisters, Eleanor Petulla and her husband, Tony of Osceola Mills, Nancy Drukenbrod of Lancaster and Sharon Moore and her husband, Charles of Falls Creek; two brothers, Don Brown and his wife, Ruth of Philipsburg and James Brown of Beverly, MA;
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Townsend and Ruth Smeal.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Interment will be at the Ashcroft Cemetery, Hawk Run.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
