CLEARFIELD – Central Pennsylvania Community Action is proud to announce the eighth year of The Prom Closet. Becca Byerly, a junior at Clearfield Area High School, selected The Prom Closet as her senior project last year. She is continuing to assist with the project this year, while she found the experience both enjoyable and reward.
Becca has experienced the delight of the girls when they find a dress that fits them perfectly and are then able to attend the event without such an expense to their family. She has worked diligently along with other volunteers to make sure all the dresses are ready for display. Purchasing a prom gown or renting a tuxedo can be very expensive, and families who are already living paycheck to paycheck or on a limited income often can’t afford these additional costs.
The Prom Closet will again be located at the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, 119 North Second St., across from the Clearfield Post Office. Filled with beautifully prepared gowns and accessories for each girl’s preference, The Prom Closet will be open on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. through May 17. The Prom Closet will be closed on Thursday, April 5 for church services.
As always, The Prom Closet is in need of donations of gowns, shoes, rhinestone or costume jewelry and accessories. Financial donations are also being sought to help with the operational costs of this program. Donations are being accepted at Central PA Community Action, 207 East Cherry St., Clearfield. Dresses and accessories can be dropped off at Chubby’s Cleaners in Clearfield or Chubby’s Cleaners located in Philipsburg County Market.
