According to the Pennsylvania State Police, in 2010, there were almost 14,000 crashes in Pennsylvania where distracted driving played a role, with nearly 1,100 of those crashes involving a hand cellular phone.
Under the new law, texting while driving is a primary offense that carries a $50 fine. According to distraction.gov, because text messaging requires visual, manual and cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far the most alarming distraction.
