HOUTZDALE – The Clearfield-based state police warned residents of a phone scam that occurred at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Houtzdale Borough, Clearfield County.
According to the report, a 78-year-old male was contacted by an unknown person in Mexico. The suspect claimed to be the male’s friend and requested that he send $2,800 via Western Union to Mexico City.
The suspect related that his vehicle had broken down and asked their conversation remain confidential. The victim wired the money, which cannot be refunded, state police said.
