Shaw stated that Clifton is wanted for failure to appear at criminal call on Feb. 2, 2012.
On March 15, 2011, Trooper Terry Jordan of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield Barracks, filed a criminal complaint charging Clifton with: 1) theft by unlawful taking or disposition, F3, 8 counts; 2) theft by deception, F3, 8 counts; 3) theft by unlawful taking or disposition, M1, 73 counts; 4) theft by deception, M1, 73 counts; 5) theft by unlawful taking or disposition, M2, 55 counts; 6) theft by deception, M2, 55 counts; 7) theft by unlawful taking or disposition, M3, 7 counts; and 8) theft by deception, M3, 7 counts.
An affidavit of probable Cause filed by Jordan states that in January 2011, the Pennsylvania State Police received a report from the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging regarding their concern that an elderly woman was the victim of an ongoing theft. Trooper Jordan interviewed the victim and found that Clifton had obtained a Power of Attorney for the victim, and that Clifton was to be responsible for paying all of the victim’s bills. Upon investigation, it was found that for over a two year period of time Clifton had improperly taken over $50,000.00 from the victim.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 30, 2011, at which time all charges were held for Court. On Feb. 2, 2012, Clifton failed to appear for Criminal Call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that on Feb. 8, 2012, Deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Clifton, and he was taken into custody without incident. Clifton is currently lodged in the Clearfield County jail.Â
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work and assistance with this case.
