RIDGWAY – Grease was the blame of a kitchen fire inside a Ridgway Borough apartment building Tuesday night. The apartment building was located at 335 Allenhurst Avenue, the Ridgway-based state police reported.
According to the report, the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and both the Ridgway Borough Police and Fire departments investigated the origin and cause of the fire. The fire damaged a two-story, brick apartment building.
The fire originated from grease in the kitchen, and an occupant attempted to extinguish the fire with water. However, the water caused the fire to spread from the stove top to adjacent areas, state police said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, and damage has been estimated at $2,000. The building was owned by Thomas Lewis of St. Marys and occupied by Steven Mercer of Ridgway, according to the report.
The Elk County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
