CLEARFIELD — Friday night the Clearfield Bison boys basketball team was back in action trying to get into the win column against the visiting Tyrone Golden Eagles, a team that had beaten the Bisons 72-38 earlier in the season.
Unfortunately, Clearfield found themselves on the short end of a 68-34 rout.
Clearfield was able to keep things contested in the early minutes of the game with Christian Lezzer having the hot hand scoring eight of his team high 10 points in the frame. However, Tyrone found a hot hand of their own in Richard Crabtree who nailed four jumpers in the quarter on his way to a 16-point night. Tyrone finished the quarter on a long run to lead 21-10.
The Bisons opened up the second stanza much of the same way they finished the first – unable to find an offensive rhythm. Tyrone, on the other hand, continued to knock down open jumpers by hitting four three-pointers in the frame. At the half the Golden Eagles had nearly doubled their lead and the Bisons trailed 42-22.
The Bisons came out in the second half with hopes of chipping into the 20-point Golden Eagles lead, but were able to only muster seven points in the quarter as Tyrone had the game in hand. At the end of three periods the Bisons trailed 57-29.
Many Bison reserves got to see action in the fourth quarter against Tyrone’s reserves as the final minutes ticked down.
The Bisons (7-10) will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Penns Valley to take on the Rams. Clearfield suffered a 47-34 setback when the two teams last met.
