Eldon L. Nelson, age 85, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, formerly of Clearfield, passed away on Jan. 31, 2012.
Mr. Nelson was born on Feb. 23, 1926 in Madera, PA.
He was the beloved father of Joyce Nelson Rowles (Chris) of Lancaster and Linda I. Nelson, of Pittsburgh and loving Pop-Pop of Kristina Rowles, Tommy Rowles, Jasmin Crouth and Brennan Crouth. Mr. Nelson is also survived by nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Nelson was predeceased in death by his parents, James and Sarah (Hellewell) Nelson, his wife, Lois (Hegarty) Nelson and siblings; James T. Nelson, Glenn H. Nelson, Sr. and Sara Ann (Nelson) Demchak.
He graduated from Bigler Township High School and the Pennsylvania State University receiving his Masters Degree in Education. He retired from Clearfield Area School District in 1987 as a Guidance Counselor after 38 years as a teacher and served one term as President of the Clearfield Education Association.
Mr. Nelson was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield.
He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Nelson’s interests included numismatics, fishing, bowling and crossword puzzles; and he was a Penn State alumnus and avid football fan. He had a quiet but deep faith that will carry him to his Lord and Savior.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 East Locust Street, Clearfield, PA on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. J. Robert Mellgard officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6 and the VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Feb. 3, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services. A Masonic Service will be conducted by the Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515 Free and Accepted Masons at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
