In defiance of the warm weather, the Clearfield YMCA’s Winterfest returned to Park Dam this year. While some events were canceled, many continued on.
On Sunday a few events continued as they have every year. The frozen salami throw had thirty contestants. Eleven people and one dog gave a go at the almost naked mile run. Twelve people took the plunge at the beach side polar bear swim.
“I’m happy about the amount of people who came out this year,” said YMCA Director Don Herres.
Herres explained that previous attempts to postpone Winterfest did not guarantee larger turn outs. The weather at a later date could be just as uncertain and there are those who rent cabins at Parker Dam for Winter Fest. So the winter festival remains consistently the weekend before the Super Bowl.
