Ruth I. Soltis, 82 of Philipsburg, passed away on Jan. 27, 2012 at Lorien Mays Chapel, Tinonium, MD.
Born March 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Cora (Shaw) Shugarts.
She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg where she was also a member of the church altar and Rosary Society; she was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3450 Ladies Auxillary. She was a homemaker and a mother. She was a 1947 graduate of Clearfield High School.
On Sept. 3 in Winchester, VA, she wed Joseph E. Soltis Sr., who survives at home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Doris Mae Shugarts and brothers Glenn, Orville and Leslie Shugarts.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Cindy Ann Brubaker and her husband Stan of York, and Karen Soltis of Randallstown, MD; sons Joseph E. Soltis Jr. and his wife Jackie of Philipsburg and James G. Soltis and his wife Stacy of Osceola Mills; sister Tressie Murphy of Trumansburg, NY; brother Max Shugarts and his wife Jane of Clearfield; grandchildren Spencer J. and Joshua D. Brubaker of York, James J. Soltis and his wife Niki of Philipsburg, Ryan J. and Samantha Jo Soltis of Osceola Mills and a great-grandson, Keegan T. Soltis of Philipsburg, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Burial will be at the Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and on Wednesday at 9-10:45 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg. A Vigil Service will be conducted by Fr. Robert J. Kelly, as will a recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. by the VFW Post 3450 Ladies Auxilary.
