CLEARFIELD – Pink Ice, a tantalizing blend of Catawba grape juice with just a hint of concord grapes, will debut at the upcoming Groundhog Trail Wine Festival on Feb. 4. This groovy concoction was created by John and Sue Kordish, who won the right to design the wine by being the highest bidder for the privilege at last year’s Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction. Their win empowered them to select the juices used, name the wine, and design the label.  The label features a peace sign in a bed of pink jewels.  “When we sampled the Catawba juice, we knew immediately it had to be the base of this wine,” Sue Kordish commented.  “Its pink blush was the inspiration for the name.”  “We liked the idea of the peace beads for the label – which could be a throw-back to our Baby Boomer roots,” her husband, John, added.

For the past six years, Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery has offered this unique experience in partnership with the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (CCAAA) at their Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction. Annually, the Friends of the Area Agency on Aging Auxiliary hold the auction to benefit programs and services of the CCAAA.  All previous designer wines created by winners of the auction experience, including Hummingbird Red, Persuasion, Summertime, Generations, and Atta Girl, sold out quickly.  Predictions are that Pink Ice is destined to follow the same path.

The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc., now celebrating its 35th year of service to residents of Clearfield County, is a major sponsor of this year’s Groundhog Trail Wine Festival.  Their anniversary logo will be featured on signature wine glasses used at the Festival.

If you cannot attend the wine festival, stop by any of the Starr Hill Winery outlets to sample and purchase Pink Ice.  Part of the proceeds from the sale of the Kordish’s wine will be donated to the Friends of the Area Agency on Aging Auxiliary to ultimately support Agency programs and services.  Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery will offer the same privilege (to create, name, and bottle your own wine) at the 17th Annual Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction scheduled for Oct. 4, 2012.
