HYDE — After winning the first two Bison Duals and placing second last year, the 2011-12 edition of the Clearfield Bison wrestling team, 0-7 at the start of the day, was just looking to pick their first win of the season.
The Bisons did better than that as they picked up wins in their first two matches of pool play and wound up 2-3 on the day to finish in sixth place out of 10 teams.
In round one, Clearfield held off Port Allegany 37-36 as Noah Cline, Jake Lancaster, Christian Stone, Dylan Graham, Wyatt Stucke, Nolan Barger, and Garrett Timko picked up wins.
The Bisons made it a winning streak when they defeated Montoursville 44-30 to go to 2-0 in their pool. Picking up victories for the Bisons were Cline, Frankie Aveni, Stone, Graham, Stucke, Barger, Kody Hepfer, Timko, and Jordan Lancaster.
The Bisons were then defeated in their final two pool matches, 50-12 by Peters Township and 57-13 by General McLane, to finish 2-2 and in third place in Pool A.
The Bisons then faced the third place team from Pool B, the Ridgway Elkers, to determine the fifth place team overall. The Elkers dealt the Bisons a 48-27 loss to claim the fifth place spot, while the Bisons were relegated to sixth.
Nolan Barger was the lone Bison to go 5-0 on the day to raise his overall record to a team leading 22-3.
