Margaret Jane “Peg” Laws, 89, of Philipsburg, died Sunday at Windy Hill Village.
Mrs. Laws was a member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg. She was also a member of the Valley Voices Community Chorus of Philipsburg and also a former member of the Philipsburg Country Club.
She enjoyed drawing, golf and singing as well as playing and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition, Mrs. Laws had formerly worked as an employment counselor with the Pennsylvania State Employment Agency, State College. She had been employed as a registered nurse with the Ritenour Health Center at Penn State, retiring in 1982. She had also worked as a nurse at the General Cigar Factory, Philipsburg, and the Philipsburg State General Hospital.
She was a 1941 graduate of the Houtzdale High School and a 1944 graduate of the Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing.
She married James Coulson Laws on Aug. 20, 1946 and who survives in Philipsburg. She’s survived by a daughter, Jennifer R. Laws-Gilham and her husband, James “Lew” of Weston, FL and a son, James “Jeff” Laws and his wife, Susan of Dickerson, MD.
Also surviving are two sisters, Helen L. Dugan of Philipsburg and formerly of Tyrone and Rita Catherine Evanochko of Trenton, NJ; a granddaughter, Kaitlin M. Laws of Baltimore, MD; a grandson, Michael J. Laws of Gaithersburg, MD; two step-great-grandsons; a niece, Patricia L. Lobb of Philipsburg and formerly of Houtzdale and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Laws was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Interment will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday morning at the chapel. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
