The road victory for Curwensville gives the Lady Tide a mark of 3-8 for the 2011-12 campaign.
Curwensville head coach Rusty McCracken liked the balanced scoring attack, “It was good to see that we had three players in double figures tonight. We scattered the scoring around, which always gets more players involved; and that’s a good thing.”
After one quarter was recorded in the scorebook the Lady Tide found themselves on top of Harmony 12-2.
The Lady Owls did however outscore their guests in the second eight minutes 11-10 and closed the gap at the intermission to 22-13 in favor of Curwensville.
Curwensville would re-group at the break and come out in the final 16 minutes to secure the win by winning the third quarter 10-4 and then the fourth 15-11.
Rebecca Johnson lead all scorers with 15 while the Strickland sisters, Savannah and Ciara, also hit for double figures with 10 each.
Tierra Shope had a strong game on the boards for the Lady Tide as the sophomore pulled down eight rebounds.
Harmony was led on offense by Lindsay Welteroth who tallied eight points including the game’s only three pointer.
The Lady Tide also defeated the Lady Owls on January 9, 56-18.
McCracken followed up by saying, “We definitely needed a win and this was a good win for us tonight. Hopefully we can play like this on a more consistent basis and grab some more wins.”
The Curwensville youngsters won the junior varsity game by defeating the Lady Owls 33-28 behind Tiara Bumbarger’s eight points. All Lady Tide JV players scored in the game.
The Lady Tide will play at Ridgway on Tuesday night with the junior varsity beginning at 6 pm and the varsity contest to follow immediately. The Tide defeated the Lady Elkers earlier in the season 39-22.
