The Penn State New Kensington men’s basketball team continues its longest road trip of the season at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, against Penn State Brandywine in Media, Pa. The wrestling team’s conference home opener is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, with a dual match against Penn State Beaver in the Athletics Center.
Coach Doug Schneider’s basketball team is 3-5 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and 4-8 overall. The New Kensington Lions split last weekend’s home games, Jan. 13 and 14, defeating Penn State Mont Alto, 65-50, and falling to Penn State Hazleton, 57-56. The Mont Alto victory was led by sophomore guard Daryl Harrington (Perry Traditional High School) who scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out six assists. Senior swingman Justin Reed (Saltsburg) pulled off a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Shaquille Hager (Oliver), a 6’5 forward, pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman Dillen Statler (Elderton), a 6’8 center, blocked 8 shots and controlled 11 rebounds. Statler had 9 blocks and 12 rebounds against Hazleton.
