CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department released details on the two-vehicle accident that occurred on state Route 879 earlier this morning.
According to police, a vehicle operated by John Walnock of Curwensville was traveling westbound, nearing the entrance to Hubler Brothers. A vehicle travelingin front of Walnock, operated by David Knee of Clearfield, had slowed to a near stop, waiting to turn left across traffic to enter the Hubler Brothers lot.
Police said Walnock told them he applied his brakes once he realized the Knee vehicle was stopping, but had insufficient time or distance to stop. Walnock’s vehicle then struck Knee’s vehicle.
This impact pushed Knee’s vehicle partially into the oncoming lane of travel and it side-swiped a third vehicle operated by Amy Ball of Northern Cambria.
A fourth vehicle, behind Walnock’s vehicle, operated by Trevor Smith of Olanta, was also involved in the mishap. Smith told police he was following Walnock and briefly saw his brake lights. He said he was unable to stopand struck the rear of Walnock’s vehicle.
Police reported that all involved, save for Smith, were sought treatment as a result of the accident. Police said Ball was treated at Clearfield Hospital. Knee was flown to Altoona Regional for treatment after being extricated from his vehicle.
