DUBOIS – The DuBois Area High School girls’ basketball team’s annual “Pink Game” against Brockway Area High School will be held Jan. 19 at DuBois Area High School.
The “Pink Game” will benefit the Hahne Cancer Center. Last year’s “Pink Game” event at Brockway raised $10,500. This year’s team began their fund-raising drive back in the fall with the “Pink Night Kickoff” football game against Meadville. Approximately $5,000 was raised from the sale of cancer awareness t-shirts, chances on an official NFL “Pink” game ball and other items.
The fund-raising drive picked back up recently with the sale of $5 raffle tickets for prizes such as a Pirate luxury box and a signed Andrew McCutcheon jersey, a 32-inch flat screen television, an HP printer, two free lunches at Red Lobster each month for a year and an in-ground basketball system. All members of the girls’ basketball team are selling the tickets, which will also be available at the game.
Also at the game, a 50/50 and a Chinese auction will be held with the proceeds going to the Hahne fund-raising drive. Some of the Chinese auction items include a signed Mario Lemieux hat, a recliner, a deck box, a microwave, Penn State basketball tickets, a lottery ticket tree, a Harley-Davidson basket, a Lia Sophia basket, a Tupperware basket, a “Pink” pampering basket and more.
Cancer survivors and cancer patients will also be honored as special guests at the game, which will begin at 6 p.m. with the junior varsity followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
