Scrappy Clearfield Matmen Fall to Brookville 40-28

CLEARFIELD – Despite falling behind 25-0, the Bison wrestling team put together their most complete effort of the season against the visiting Brookville Raiders Thursday night before losing 40-28.

After Mike Beck was pinned at 160, Kody Hepfer and Garrett Timko each ‘went the distance’ for the first time this season, with Hepfer dropping a 10-2 decision and Timko losing 7-4.

Devin Sinclair and Shane Billings also lost by fall before heavyweight Jordan Lancaster stemmed the tide, pinning Nathan Nosker in 3:50.

Noah Cline followed with a dominating 9-1 win at 106 before the Bisons forfeited at 113. Both Lancaster and Cline evened their records for the year, Lancaster at 5-5 and Cline at 4-4.

Frank Aveni dropped a hard-fought 8-4 decision at 120, but Christian Stone defeated talented freshman Daulton Zimmerman 6-3 to give the Bisons some hope. Unfortunately, Cole Clever was too much for Jon Sponsler, pinning the Bison freshman in 1:53 and ensuring the dual meet would go to the Raiders. At 138 Dylan Graham won the last contested bout of the evening 5-3 in OT over Jimmy Miller, then Nolan Barger and Cody Mayhew won by forfeit to set the final score. Stone and Barger remain tied for the best record and most victories on the season at 8-1.

Clearfield (0-5) is in action at the Tool City tournament this weekend before hitting the road to face Bellefonte Tusday evening.
