Hackett had six first quarter points only to sit out the entire second frame after committing his second personal foul late in the first eight minutes. The 6’ 6” center made the most of his second quarter nap scoring 12 points in the third stanza and nine more in the fourth to lead all scorers with 27 in Brookville’s 66-43 win.
It was the seventh win of the year for the defending District 9 AA champions against two defeats. Clearfield had it’s record evened at 4-4 with the loss.
Clearfield kept it close most of the first quarter as Bison Curtis Frye scored the first five points for the visitors while Raider senior Tighe Truman connected on three 3-pointers to give Brookville a 19-11 edge after one period.
Truman would hit on two more treys in the second eight minutes of play and would finish the night with 15 points, all in the first half of action.
The Bisons played the Raiders even in the second quarter as each squad added 15 points to the scoreboard to keep the margin at eight in favor of Brookville at the intermission.
It was the second half, with Hackett doing his thing, that hurt the Bisons along with a lack of offense by Clearfield in the third quarter.
As mentioned Hackett scored 12 points in the third while Clearfield could only score four points on just two field goals which undoubtedly decided the game.
With a 48-30 lead after the third quarter it became evident that the Raiders would continue to move ahead in the final quarter, which they did, by outscoring Clearfield 18-13 as Hackett picked up nine more tallies.
Clearfield head coach Forrest Campman liked the effort of his team in spite of the loss, “When we played Tyrone on Tuesday night it wasn’t a great effort on our part. Tonight, though, we played very hard and I told the kids after the game that that was our best effort in the last four games.”
Campman continued with “I was pleased that we didn’t turn the ball over like we have done in the past but we just didn’t shoot the ball well and gave up way too many offensive rebounds.”
In closing Campman added, “We struggled out of the gate to start the second half and just never found a way to recover. But again, our effort was good.”
The Bisons had three players in double figures with Robbie Myers dropping in 12 with Frye and Trey Jordan, off of the bench, each picking up 10 points.
Besides Hackett’s 27 and Truman’s 15, Austin Burney had 12 for the Raiders under coach Bud Baughman.
In the junior varsity game Clearfield came away with a 33-22 victory over the young Raiders.
Next up for Clearfield will be a trip to Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday to play the Mounties with JV action starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
