CLEARFIELD – In order to make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Jan. 16, “A Day On, Not A Day Off”’, RSVP of Clearfield County is once again organizing a food drive for food banks throughout Clearfield County.
The King Day of Service is a way to transform this federal holiday into community service that helps lighten human burdens. With so many individuals struggling with the economy, a food drive makes a big difference for many people and their families. Each year the food banks report that their food inventory is down after the holidays, so this is a perfect time for the community to work together to fill the food banks.
Participants will include area Centers for Active Living, churches, schools, libraries, and businesses. Area restaurants are being asked to sell and display a cut out paper “Helping Hand” for each $1 donation they collect from patrons.
This is the fourth year RSVP has sponsored a food drive for Martin Luther King Day. Last year over a ton and a half of food and approximately $800 was collected and divided between the ten food banks in Clearfield County. This year, the Contemporary Woman’s Club of DuBois has offered to help coordinate in the DuBois area and the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce has offered to be a drop off site for food.
