The victory for the Golden Tide sets it’s record at 1-5 for the 2011-12 campaign and first career win for rookie head coach Shane Pentz.
Pentz spoke afterwards on how it felt to get win number one, “I’m really glad for the kids. They have stuck with everything we have asked them to do. They have never hung their heads.”
The Tide outscored the Wolves in every quarter to have their biggest offensive night of the season. Their previous high was 31 points in the season opening loss to Brockway.
Curwensville had a six point margin at the half, 25-19, and never lost the momentum in the second sixteen minutes when they outscored their hosts 26-22 to secure the win.
It was a true team effort as Pentz said, “Tonight we got contributions from a lot of different sources which helped make the difference. It was the key for us in getting this victory.”
Curwensville was lead by five sophomores, scoring 49 of the 51 points.
Tanner Elensky paced the Tide with 14 followed by Alex Olson hitting for 11. Brett Gardner had nine, Kyle Johns eight and Austin Jacobson seven to facilitate the balanced scoring by the five sophomores.
Tyler Laurie of Kane had 17 points to lead the Wolves offense as the senior hit five times from beyond the arc.
Pentz closed with, “We really want to build on this effort tonight and try to get better every day.”
Kane did pull out the victory in the junior varsity game that started the action with a 42-29 win over Curwensville.
The Tide return to action Friday night at home when they battle the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic with the JV game starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
