FALLS CREEK – They’re calling it a miracle.
According to Gant news partner WJACTV.com, on Monday, around 3 p.m., 20 vehicles were involved in a big wreck on Interstate 80.
Mark Miller, fire chief of the Falls Creek Volunteer Fire Department said, as a result of the accident, 17 people were taken to nearby hospitals.
Miller said three people were taken to a hospital in Brookville while the others were taken to the Dubois Regional Medical Center.
Miller told 6 News no fatalities were reported at the scene of the accident, and he has had no reports stating otherwise with victims in the hospital.
Officials said the accident was due to snow squalls moving through the region which cut visibility.
State police said the first vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer.
Officials said the driver lost control and jackknifed across both eastbound lanes.
Following that, 19 other cars crashed along the interstate in Washington Township, Jefferson County.
“I was amazed. The damage to some of those vehicles, wow. We popped the doors off the cars and people just crawled out,” said Falls Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. assistant chief Ed Burtop.
