FLINTON — The first month of the 2011-2012 season for the Curwensville Golden Tide Basketball season has been one of transition and youth. A new coach, and few experienced players have made it a difficult start to the season.
Friday night, coach Shane Pentz and his team were ready to end the 2011 part of their season on a high note, as they traveled to take on the 2-3 Glendale Vikings.
Unfortunately for Pentz and his team, the night would be one that they would rather forget.
Curwensville was defeated by Glendale by a final of 62-29, thanks in big part to the Vikings rebounds. The home team brought down 38 rebounds, compared to the Tide’s 26.Â
Viking senior Michael Wigfield was the key player in the victory as he had a game-high 21 points, and pulled down 15 of those boards en route to a double-double on the night. Damon Braniff also had double-digit scoring as he added another 14 points on the night, and added on another five steals.
For Curwensville, Tanner Elensky and Brett Gardner led the team in scoring, each with seven. Kyle Johns added another six, with Alex Olson accounting for five.
The Tide (0-5), will begin the 2012 calendar year on January 4 as they will again be on the road to face Kane. Two days later, they return home to Patton Hall to host Dubois Central Catholic.
