BOGGS TOWNSHIP – An accident on state Route 153 took the life of a Houtzdale woman on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, Mona Nevling of Houtzdale was traveling south on SR 153 when she lost control of her Kia Sportage on the icy roadway. She traveled onto the west berm and struck a large tree stump with the front end of the vehicle.
Nevling suffered moderate injuries and was wearing her seat belt. She was transported to Altoona for treatment of her injuries.
Passenger Karen L. Colton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Michael Polachek. She was wearing her seat belt.
Police were assisted at the scene by PennDOT, BJW and Glen Richey Fire Companies.
